General Remarks
I could send one that is four feet by seven — it is that yellow streak you returned to me done over as a horizontal — the color much brighter [see cat. no. 1262] — and Im doing it again now four feet by six and the color is just plain color out of the tube — red and orange to lemon — It shocks me so that Im rather struck with it — I don't know what it will get to (O'Keeffe to Edith Halpert, 8 August 1954, Archive of American Art). "The second painting 'From the Plains' [cat. no. 1262] is at the Kecks. I sent it to have a rubbed place spotted and to have it sprayed" (O'Keeffe to Edith Halpert, 13 August 1958, Archive of American Art). (Source: Lynes, 1999)
