General Remarks
Whitney Archive indicates, "Exam. at Amer. Place, March 1946. . . . No signature. Nothing on back. Pink Shell with seaweed and blue background. Title given by Rosalind Irvine. Note: O'Keeffe thinks done ab. 1938." The stretcher accompanying the works once housed 'Dark Abstraction,' a 1920 painting (lost or destroyed) that was no. 42 in the 1923 Anderson Galleries exhibition.
