General Remarks
Whitney Archive, Abiquiú Notebooks indicate, "Sold to Elizabeth Arden. Hangs in exercise room at Elizabeth Arden. Painting not listed in 1939 catalogue, but according to Cue reproduction, shown in 1939 at An Amer. Place." The painting was never exhibited at New York (An American Place). Stieglitz–O'Keeffe correspondence indicates painting was sent to Elizabeth Arden immediately upon completion. Whitney Archive indicates, "Miss O'Keeffe not sure of date, thinks about 1935." Whitney Archive dates 1937? 1938? Downtown Gallery Archive dates c. 1938. Abiquiú Notebooks dates 1938. Dated 1936 on basis of Stieglitz–O'Keeffe correspondence and mention of work in article in New York Sun (January 1937). Reproduced and titled Miracle Flower in Town and Country (April 1943), and titled White Flowers in Cue. (Source: Lynes, 1999)
