Abiquiú Notebooks notes 1931 date on backing inscription 3. Backing inscriptions 1 and 3 date 1931. Whitney Archive, Downtown Gallery Archive, Abiquiú Notebooks date 1932. Dated 1931 on basis of backing inscriptions. The once held another work that was primed or painted on 13 January 1920. Surface: Along the left edge of the painting are intermittent areas of soiling. At the upper and lower left corners and bottom right edge are minor abrasions and loss. At the upper right edge is a white accretion. There are scattered minor areas of loss and abrasions at the upper right near the corner. At the upper right near the outer edge of the leaf are scattered minor black accretions and at the lower left near the bottom edge of the leaf are scattered minor brown accretions. There is a minor hairline crack in the surface at the center. At the upper left near the outer edge of the leaf is a large section of intermittent soiling and two minor areas of blind cleavage.
Frame: The frame is in excellent condition with no damage.
Published with corresponding artwork entry in Georgia O’Keeffe: Catalogue Raisonné (Lynes, 1999), this historical conservation information documents treatment decisions made during the artist’s lifetime. Lynes quotes information found on backing labels, and, when noted, from other sources.
