A large white rose stretches across the bottom of the composition. Framing the flower are periwinkle and lavender-colored delphinium blooms with white centers. Hints of green are visible in the composition in the form of dark leaves.

Double entries Downtown Gallery Archive. . Whitney Archive indicates, "On loan to Dr. Constance Friess, 345 East 68th St, N.Y.C.." Inscription in current owner files: Georgia O'Keeffe ☆{5star} (graphite); "White Roses with Larkspur"/by Georgia O'Keeffe (Alfred Stieglitz, black ink); "White Rose with Larkspur – No. 1 – 1927/by Georgia O'Keeffe" (Alfred Stieglitz, An American Place1, black ink); "White Rose with Larkspur/1927/by Georgia O'Keeffe" (WE, An American Place6, black ink). Friess was one of O'Keeffe's physicians. Abiquiú Notebooks indicates, "Note: was at Reinhardt Galleries. O'K says that Reinhardt did not sell this, and that it is a PPA [sic An American Place], same year as White Rose – Abstraction, which is 1927. Not listed in 1928 catalogue." Abiquiú Notebooks indicates, "Note: O'Keeffe thinks this may be the same picture as 'White Rose with Larkspur No. I' (?) [in 1928 exhibition] Betty Pilkington 1957." (Source: Lynes, 1999)
