A black pansy with a starburst of yellow at its center appears to float in a softly shaded, pale blue background. The pansy dominates the bottom third of the narrow composition, and a green stem dotted with green buds extends upward from the black flower. Blue forget-me-nots appear in two clusters, one just above the pansy and one at the top of the stem.
