A bright white shell sits on a black surface. Just behind the shell, a gray single stands on its side against a white wall. The details of both the shell and shingle have been omitted, giving the work a semiabstract appearance.

General Remarks

V in first title written in by Doris Bry in black ink in Abiquiú Notebooks. Whitney Archive indicates, "Exam. at Amer. Place, April 1945 [notes stretcher inscription 1]. . . . Similar but less abstract than the Fischel picture –– shingle does not reach top of picture. Slate grey shingle with small white shell at base. Pale grey background."
