Whitney Archive indicates, "Exam. at Amer. Place, March 1946. . . . No signature." Abiquiú Notebooks notes inscriptions 1, 2. Pictured in 1934 New York (An American Place) Stieglitz installation photograph, see Appendix III, figure 56. Reproduced in Creative Art (January 1928); reproduced and titled Birch and Pine in Newark Evening News (March 1934). Anita O'Keeffe Young was the artist's sister. She purchased many O'Keeffe pictures, and frequently traded those she had purchased for others. This may be an example of such a trade. (Source: Lynes, 1999)
