Three white calla lilies, clustered together, dominate the composition. A bright yellow spike protrudes from the center of each. Three green stems are visible beneath the blooms. The white and gray background resembles layers of draped, light-colored fabric.

General Remarks

Whitney Archive, Abiquiú Notebooks indicate, "Exam. at Mr. Strand's house, Feb. 1946. . . . No signature. Three calla lilies. Owned Mr. Jacob Strand. Anderson Gals, Stieglitz 7 American, 1925. Bought by Jack Strand." 1970 auction entry indicates, "On the reverse is an oil study of a red gladiolus" [not verified]. Titled Lilies by Stieglitz on Abiquiú Notebooks photograph.
