Whitney Archive, Abiquiú Notebooks indicate, "Exam. at Amer. Place, March, 1946. . . . No signature [note of backing inscription 1]. Reddish purple barns." Abiquiú Notebooks notes backing inscription 2. Abiquiú Notebooks after 1977 indicates, "Sold 1957 Downtown Gallery." Stretcher inscription 1 possibly indicates date of preparatory work. Whitney Archive, Downtown Gallery Archive, Abiquiú Notebooks date 1924? Dated 1922/1924 on basis of stretcher and backing inscription 1. (Source: Lynes, 1999)
