General Remarks
Whitney Archive indicates, "Painted ab. 1920. Sold to Katherine Rhoades." Whitney Archive, Abiquiú Notebooks indicate, "Letter from Katharine N. Rhoades, April 10, 1946: 'Some years ago I gave the painting "Plums" by Georgia O'Keeffe to my niece who is now living out of town. I shall have to send her the form to complete & return to you. . . .'" Whitney Archive indicates, "Note: O'Keeffe thinks this is gallery photo 4–b [should be 4–l] O'Keeffe exh. at Anderson Gals. 1923. Mrs. Reynolds wrote Sept. 1951 saying she wanted to sell this painting. I referred her to Miss O'Keeffe at the advice of the Downtown Gallery. Saw this picture at the Weyhe Gal. May 21, 1953. Sent to them by Mrs. Reynolds who wanted them to sell it for her for $500. They are returning it to Mrs. Reynolds as they think the price is too high. Not one of O'Keeffe's best efforts––soft and 'pretty.' Rate (1)." Abiquiú Notebooks indicates, "Probably shown at Randolph–Macon by Miss Rhoades." Pictured in 1923 New York (Anderson) Stieglitz installation photograph, see Appendix III, figure 15. (Source: Lynes, 1999)
