Whitney Archive, Abiquiú Notebooks indicate, "Exam. at Georgia O'Keeffe apartment, May 3, 1946." Abiquiú Notebooks after 1977 indicates, "Sold Feb. 23, 1969." Whitney Archive, Abiquiú Notebooks associate cat. no. 996 as no. 5 in 1943 New York (An American Place) exhibition, but that work was painted in 1940 and sold to Duncan Phillips in 1941. Backing inscription 2 dates 1940. Dated 1941 on basis of Stieglitz–O'Keeffe correspondence. See cat. nos. 1028, 1063, 1064, 1939. (Source: Lynes, 1999)
