- Abstract
- In 1944 there is one letter with its envelope from Mary Cabot Wheelwright to Maria Chabot, July 18, 1944. In 1945 there are three letters: one letter with its envelope from MCW to MC, Aug. 16, 1945; two letters from MC to MCW, January 11, 1945 and Sept. 6, 1945. In 1946 there are a total of ten letters [one letter has four copies], two cards [one with an envelope], three pages of notes, and one pamphlet. Within these are three letters from MC to MCW: Dec. 12, 1946, Dec. 18, 1946 and Dec. 22, 1946. The last contains an account of receipts and expenses for Los Luceros in 1946. There are three letters from MCW to MC: Dec. 9, 1946, Dec. 19, 1946 and Dec. 20, 1946, as well as a post card, Dec. 9, 1946, and a Christmas card for 1946. With these letters were also found three pages of notes by MC, written in San Antonio and dated Dec.21, 1946, reflecting on MCW's personality. There is one letter from Polito Garcia to MC, Dec. 23, 1946. There are two letters concerning legal matters; one written by J.O. Seth, April 12, 1946 with four copies and one written by MC to J.O. Seth, Dec. 12, 1946. Often the letters written by MCW are not dated by year. They have been left in the correspondence where they were found with a note in MC's hand, "Correspondence with MCW – Winter 1946-47". In 1947 there are a total of twenty-eight letters, three with envelopes. Within these are fifteen letters from MC to MCW and ten from MCW to MC. There are two letters from MC to C.C. Wheelwright, Jan. 20, 1947 and March 21, 1947, which concern the finances and business of running Los Luceros. There is one letter from W.C. Pemberton to Z. Verlarde, May 23, 1947, concerning a fence encroaching on Los Luceros land. There are no letters for 1948. In 1949 there are a total of seven letters [two with copies]. There are no letters between MC and MCW. There are two copies of a proxy with an envelope, May 15, 1949, granting to MC and to Polito Garcia MCW's voting rights at the Alcalde Ditch Association. There are six letters concerning the fence dispute with Z. Velarde. This is correspondence between various lawyers, agents of the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and MC as MCW's representative. There is a draft of a telegram and note by MC concerning luggage lost by MCW and a letter with its envelope from Josiah Wheelwright to MC concerning house repair costs for Polito Garcia with a note on these costs. In 1950 there is one letter, July 3, 1950, from MC to W.C. Chapin concerning finances. In 1951 there are a total of nine letters and two drafts of a letter. Three letters are from Josiah Wheelwright to MC: Jan. 7, 1951, Jan. 28, 1951 and Dec. 26, 1951 with a note and an estimate of expenses at Los Luceros for 1952. There are two letters from MC to JW: Jan. 16, 1951 and Dec. 6, 1951. There are two letters from MC to MCW: April 22, 1951, Aug. 14, 1951 and two drafts, dated Dec. 6, 1951. There are two letters from MC to Gertrude Chapin: Dec. 3, 1951 and Dec. 27, 1951 with a note concerning payment of Polito Garcia. These letters concern difficulties in paying expenses at Los Luceros.
