- Abstract
- In this box are twenty dated letters, eleven with envelopes, seven undated letters with a final sequence of undated letters, written in a continuous series that spans six days. The first two letters, Sept. 11, 1964 and Sept. 14, 1964, are written from San Francisco where Chabot has gone to attend Irene Zelinski, who has attempted suicide. These letters describe that event. Chabot writes the last letter from San Francisco on Oct. 15, 1964. The next letter, Nov. 3, 1964, is written from Albuquerque, where Chabot has returned to find her house vandalized. The last dated letter from Chabot to Gallet is Nov. 23, 1964, and their relationship has ended. Among the undated letters are two which concern the pregnancy of Gallet's daughter, which is discussed in the dated letters between July 5 and July 12, 1964. The second of these is an eighteen page letter from Chabot to the father of the child. It was probably unsent. The last of the undated letters is a continuous series begun, "11 AM – Wednesday" and ending "Monday – 7:27 PM". The last sentence of this letter is, "I will have nightmares dated October 3rd 1964." Chabot was still in San Francisco at this time, and the undated letter is clearly written from Albuquerque. The date probably refers to some event that ended their romantic relationship, not the date of the letter.
